Das in 2015 eingeläutete The Balvenie DCS Compendium ist komplett. Vor Kurzem enthüllte die The Balvenie Distillery in der schottischen Region Speyside das fünfte und damit letzte Kapitel „Malt Master’s Indulgence“ der im Zeichen von Malt Master David C. Stewart stehenden Reihe. Auch das fünfteilige Chapter Five verweist mit den Jahrgängen der aus Einzelfässer stammenden Single Malt Whiskys auf bedeutsame Momente in der Geschichte von The Balvenie und des seit über fünf Jahrzehnten in der Whiskyherstellung aktiven Malt Masters. Die vom Malt Master persönlich getroffene Auswahl reicht von einem Ex-Oloroso-Sherry-Hogshead europäischer Eiche aus dem Jahr 1962, erinnernd an das erste Jahr von David C. Stewart bei The Balvenie und zudem mit 56 Jahren der Reifung die älteste Eigenabfüllung der Brennerei, bis zu einem First-Fill-Bourbon-Barrel, aus dem ein getorfter Single Malt Whisky als Erinnerung an die Wiedereinführung getorften Gerstenmalzes bei The Balvenie befreit wurde.
David C. Stewart sagt: „It takes a good deal of time to understand how each cask differs and how whisky maturation is affected by various wood types. You need confidence to select casks and know which are likely to achieve greatness. Working for a family company, I’ve been lucky enough to have been given the freedom to make stock decisions based on my preference and vision, with the free rein to pick casks and hold on to whisky, not always knowing what I’m going to do with it, for no other reason than thinking one day it will be extraordinary. For me, this is indulgence in its truest form.“

Weltweit sind 50 Exemplare der abschließenden The Balvenie DCS Compendium Chapter Five erhältlich. Hinsichtlich der Verfügbarkeit in Deutschland und dem Preis fehlen offizielle Angaben. Das von The Balvenie Craftsman Sam Chinnery aus europäischer Eiche und Messing handgefertigte Set wechselt inklusive eines von Markenbotschafter Dr. Samuel J. Simmons geschriebenen und von Malt Master David Stewart signierten Begleitbuch den Besitzer. Einzelne Abfüllungen werden in geringer Stückzahl auch separat angeboten.
