Die Glenfiddich Distillery in der schottischen Region Speyside verkündet den Launch einer neuen Rarität: des Glenfiddich Grand Cru 23 Jahre. Der limitierte Single Malt Scotch Whisky verbrachte rund 23 Jahre in ehemaligen Bourbon- und ehemaligen Sherryfässern. Darauf folgte ein bis zu sechsmonatiges Finish in ehemaligen Cuvée-Weinfässern der Grand Cru der Champagne in Frankreich. Anschließend kam es zum Abfüllen in Flaschen mit einem Alkoholgehalt von 40 Prozent. Offizielle Angaben hinsichtlich einer Kältefiltration oder einer Färbung existieren nicht.
Laut den offiziellen Tasting-Notes entfaltet der dunkel-goldfarbene Glenfiddich Grand Cru 23 Jahre einen intensiven Duft nach Rosen, frisch gebackenem Brot und kandierter Zitrone. Der Geschmack offenbare Ebenen von reicher Vanille und Eiche, süßem Brioche, Sandelholz, Birnensorbet und weißer Traube. Im langen Finish sei der Whisky opulent und süß.
Brian Kinsman, Glenfiddich Malt Master, kommentiert: „Breaking category conventions once more, this unusual collaboration presented an exciting opportunity to create a liquid that further proof points our spirit of experimentation. This is the only Glenfiddich Single Malt to undergo this exceptional finishing in French cuvée casks that once contained the liquid that goes on to become some of the world’s most extraordinary sparkling wines. We experimented to find the optimal maturation and finishing times, and hand selected the right balance of 23-year-old Glenfiddich casks out of our unique collection of old age malts. Marrying the best of both worlds, the final liquid is exquisite and a special tribute to each individual cuvée cask the malts were finished in.“
Struan Grant Ralph, Global Glenfiddich Brand Ambassador, sagt: „This new whisky exemplifies the brand’s passion for pushing Scotch whisky boundaries, looking beyond the world of whisky to create exquisitely flavoured liquids. Fine sparkling wines are long established as the drink to celebrate with. However, we wanted to challenge that convention and we did so by crafting an expression that plays on this celebratory liquid, but that brings the substance and smoothness of Single Malt. The result is Grand Cru – a liquid that bears the hallmark of quality and innovation associated with the brand and is a true testament to our innate maverick spirit.“
In ausgewählten Märkten ist der Glenfiddich Grand Cru 23 Jahre bereits erhältlich. Offiziell soll im März 2020 die deutsche Markteinführung erfolgen. Erste Fachhändler wollen hingegen schon in diesem Monat den Verkauf starten. Wie viele Exemplare die Brennerei produziert, ist nicht bekannt. Auch eine unverbindliche Preisempfehlung liegt nicht vor.

Ab Oktober ist der Glenfiddich Grand Cru 23 Jahre im ausgewählten Fachhandel in Österreich zu haben. Die unverbindliche Preisempfehlung wird mit 299 Euro für die 0,7-l-Flasche inklusive Geschenkverpackung angegeben.
