Gut ein halbes Jahr nachdem die Glenlivet Distillery in der schottischen Speyside den limitierten Glenlivet Cipher vorstellte, gibt der Master Distiller Alan Winchester die offizielle Verkostungsnotiz bekannt. Bei der internationalen Markteinführung des auch als Mysterium betitelten Single Malt Whiskys wurden die Angaben zur Fassauswahl und die Tasting-Notes verschwiegen, um die Nase und den Gaumen der Konsumenten und insbesondere der Guardians – dem Fanclub der Brennerei – herauszufordern. Offiziell kam die auf 33.000 Flaschen weltweit limitierte Sonderabfüllung nicht nach Deutschland.
Den nun veröffentlichten Tastings-Notes nach besitze der hell-goldfarbene Glenlivet Cipher einen Geruch nach Bonbons, Vanille, Honig, Himbeermarmelade mit saftigen Rosinen und würzigem Süßholz. Am Gaumen entfalte der Whisky eine Kombination aus pochierten Birnen, Honig, Zimt, Honeycomb Candy, Karamelltoffee und Dark Chocolate Ginger Sweets. Das Finish sei lang mit einer warmen Würze.

Bereits im Jahr 2013 wagte sich Glenlivet an einen geheimnisvollen Whisky. Der Glenlivet Alpha war auf nur 3.350 Flaschen begrenzt und nur für Medienpartner erhältlich.
