Das US-amerikanische Unternehmen Brown-Forman gibt den Kauf der Marke Gin Mare bekannt. Das spanische Original wurde 2008 von der katalanischen Familie Giró Ribot und dem spanischen Unternehmen Global Premium Brands – später als Vantguard bekannt – gelauncht. Bisher ist kein Kaufpreis bekannt. Die Herstellung des Gin Mare und des Gin Mare Capri wird weiterhin in einer alten Kapelle auf dem Gelände der in fünfter Generation von der Familie Giró Ribot geführten MG Destilerías im Hinterland des Fischerdorfs Vilanova i la Geltrú unweit der katalanischen Metropole Barcelona stattfinden.

Unklar ist derzeit noch, welche Neuerungen es bezüglich des Vertriebs in Deutschland geben wird.

Wenige Wochen nach dem Kauf der Marke übernimmt Brown-Forman ab sofort auch den exklusiven Vertrieb für den Gin Mare in Deutschland. Bisher zeichnete Eggers & Franke für die hiesige Distribution verantwortlich. Tanja Steffen, Marketing Direktorin Brown-Forman Deutschland und Tschechien, sagt: „Die Übernahme dieses wundervollen, in einem katalanischen Fischerdorf entwickelten Gins in unser Portfolio setzt den Ausbau unseres Super Premium Angebots um eine weitere charaktervolle, authentische Marke mit starken Wurzeln fort.“
