Nach einer streng limitierten Einzelfassabfüllung enthüllt die Connacht Distillery ihren ersten regulären Single Malt Irish Whiskey. Die in 2016 im irischen County Mayo gestartete Brennerei gab dem Connacht Single Malt Batch 1 über vier Jahre Zeit zum Reifen. In Kupferbrennblasen zweifach aus dem Malz heimischer Gerste destilliert, verbrachte der Erstling zunächst gut vier Jahre in Ex-Bourbonfässern. Darauf folgte ein Finish in 500 Liter großen Ex-Oloroso-Sherryfässern. Die gesamte Reifezeit im Klima des nahen Atlantiks wird mit vier bis fünf Jahren angegeben. Eingeflossen sein sollen damit auch Destillate aus den allerersten Brennwochen. Abgefüllt wurde mit einem Alkoholvolumen von 47 Prozent, ohne Kältefiltration und ohne Farbstoff. Wie viele Flaschen das erste Batch umfasst, ist nicht bekannt.
Die offiziellen Tasting-Notes schreiben dem Geruch des Connacht Single Malt Batch 1 Rosinen, getrocknete Früchte, eine Honigsüße, Butterscotch und Sternanis zu. Der Geschmack entfalte Vanille, würzige Noten, getrocknete Früchte und Malz. Im Nachklang langanhaltend mit Walnuss und Honig.

Der Connacht Single Malt Batch 1 ist ab sofort im gut sortierten Fachhandel anzutreffen. Wie viele Flaschen auf den Markt kommen, ist nicht bekannt. Die unverbindliche Preisempfehlung liegt bei 59,90 Euro für die 0,7-l-Flasche.
