Zum ersten Mal hat die Michter’s Distillery, ein über zwei Brennereien im US-Bundesstaat Kentucky verfügendes Unternehmen, kürzlich den Michter’s US★1 Sour Mash in Barrel Strength gelauncht. Wann man in Deutschland in den Genuss kommen wird, ist unbekannt.
Unverfälschter American Whiskey
Wie beim Michter’s US★1 Sour Mash sind auch beim Michter’s US★1 Barrel Strength Sour Mash kaum Details zur Beschaffenheit des American Whiskeys bekannt. Inoffiziellen Angaben zufolge dient als Vorbild eine historische Mashbill aus 45 Prozent Mais, 45 Prozent Roggen und zehn Prozent gemälzter Gerste. Auf die Fermentation unter der expliziten Anwendung des „Sour Mash“-Verfahrens folgt die Destillation erst auf einer Copper Column Still und dann auf einer Copper Pot Still – auch Doubler genannt. Die Reifung in New-American-White-Oak-Barrels erstreckt sich über fünf bis acht Jahre. Das eine unbekannte Anzahl Flaschen umfassende Release 2026 des Michter’s US★1 Barrel Strength Sour Mash wartet mit einer durchschnittlichen Fassstärke von 55,75 Prozent auf. Michter‘s unterzieht den Whiskey einer nicht näher beleuchteten „Signature Filtration“.

In the spirit of keeping with the consistency and beauty and elegance of this product, we decided to offer this whiskey in a barrel strength form wherein the batch is created, but is left uncut and then undergoes our signature filtration protocol.“
Eintreffen ungewiss
Unklar ist, ob in absehbarer Zeit eine nennenswerte Anzahl Flaschen des Michter’s US★1 Barrel Strength Sour Mash ihren Weg nach Deutschland finden werden. Entsprechend liegt aktuell auch keine unverbindliche Preisempfehlung vor.
